Our application process
Assessments
At Marshall Wace, we are looking for highly numerate, lateral and independent thinkers who can also work effectively in a team. Our testing is designed to help us asses your skills and find out more about the way you think. After our initial CV screening, candidates will be invited to complete three online assessments.
These are:
A short programming test lasting 60 minutes that will allow us to get a better sense of your programming skills – advanced knowledge of any language is not required. Basic coding techniques and an ability to write and use simple functions are sufficient. You will be free to use any of the following languages that are supported by Codility: C, C++, C#, Go, Java 8, Java 11, JavaScript, Kotlin, Lua, Objective-C, Pascal, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby, Scala, Swift 4, Visual Basic
The second is a Data exam via CorrelationOne, lasting 90 minutes, will assess your ability to do ‘light’ quant research. After downloading a number of csv files, you will be asked a number of questions that can be answered after performing some basic analysis on the data, using whatever programming language you have available.
The third is a Technical assessment also via CorrelationOne, lasting 2 hours 30 minutes. This covers the following topics: probability theory, statistics, regression analysis, general mathematical topics (algebra, matrices, optimisation, etc.), algorithm design.
These tests are intended to be personal to you and, by completing them you are agreeing to not disclose or discuss any of the information outside of Marshall Wace employees.
